BERLIN/BEIJING (Own report) - German parliamentarians announce theywill intensify their support for forces in China struggling againstthe central government in Beijing. The "Tibet Discussion Group in theGerman Bundestag" announced its plans to put the Tibet issue on theagenda in the aftermath of this year's Bundestag elections.Parliamentarians should become also more "involved" in the anti-Chinese activities of Tibetan activists, according to the discussion group's plan for the next legislature. Their main objective is to "enhance the public perception" of western China's Tibetautonomous region, where separatists are seeking to withdraw fromB eijing's government control. Other German foreign policy organizations, such as the Friedrich Naumann Foundation affiliated with the Free Democratic Party (FDP), continue their support for theTibetan "Exile Government" in Dharamsala (India). Accompanying the current Xinjiang campaign, these activities could soon again draw more public attention: The Dalai Lama is due to arrive for talks in Germany in July and the corresponding media coverage can be expected. Important Uyghur forces are seeking an open alliance with the Dalai Lama against Beijing - with German backing.
